Trap Door Brewing

one of the finest breweries north of the Columbia River (and south of it). I was there on their very first day when they released 3.5 beers. 5 years later I was tasked with creating their fifth anniversary concept that would go on cans, shirts, posters and be made into a sticker.

the concept, as told to me, was a hand showing 5 fingers - within the hand was a collage of label art from all of the beers they had released that year. I searched for a vector of a hand and got tired of looking, so I just took a picture of my own hand and traced the outside of it. I do get a kick out of seeing my hand on the shirts of people walking around in downtown Vancouver.

this was actually a monumental task that truly tested the edge of my computer’s processing power. it required me to open the .ai files (and some .psd) of the artwork for over 20 different labels and pick recognizable sections from each and place them inside the hand as though it were covered in stickers. the owner’s wife liked what I made and that’s how you know when you have a winner!

I was really glad to put this one behind me, but one year later I was asked to do it again - this time with a 6-fingered hand for a beer called Inconceivable! if you don’t recognize the reference, it’s from the cult classic The Princess Bride. it really was such a great concept and this one even became a first for beer in the NW with a label featuring a peel-off sticker!

other projects included a redesign for stickers and hoodies, as well as a hat design.
